☕ THE POUR — The $11.3 million weekend

Somewhere last week, a Pikachu outperformed most houses. The five biggest TCG sales of Sept 13–20 totaled $11,339,471 — more than five times the prior week's haul. The headline pair: two Pikachu Illustrators combining for over $7.8 million — a PSA 9 at $5,000,000 through Heritage on Sep 18 and a CGC 9 at $2,806,271 through Goldin on Sep 19.

Magic refused to be a footnote: an Alpha Black Lotus in PSA 10 hammered at $2,208,200 at Goldin on Sep 19 — a record auction price for the card type (one of three PSA 10s in existence), though still short of the $3 million private sale of the CGC Pristine 10 copy in 2024. And the undercard was absurd: a sealed 1999 1st Edition Base Set box at $750,000 and a Legendary Collection Charizard reverse holo PSA 10 at $575,000 — the first week in recent memory every Top-5 sale cleared half a million. Trophy money is officially loose heading into Q4 — and this Friday the other end of the market floods: Reality Fracture prereleases and Radiance's main preview season both go live.

❝

The takeaway: Big money chases what can't be printed. Everything else is just waiting for the reprint button.

⚡ QUICK HITS

Wizards confirmed more Reality Fracture delays: EMEA's Secret Lair Bundle may arrive after Oct 23, Collector Boosters are short across EMEA/APAC, and APAC Commander decks land late. (ICv2)

ICv2's Scott Thorne today: collectors are chasing 30th Celebration stock at Buc-ee's, Ace Hardware, Staples, and Cracker Barrel — and local route drivers are tired of being followed store to store. (ICv2)

The $2.2M Lotus was reholdered in 2026 but never regraded — the grade is likely older, and visible edge cut marks may have kept bidding under the $3M record. (ICv2)

Reality Fracture brings Black Lotus back as a token with the original's exact effect — the classic Reserved List workaround, now with a human face in the flower. (CBR)

🔬 THE DEEP CUT — Two markets, one trench coat

Last week priced the two ends of the hobby in the same seven days. A Pikachu Illustrator — a card that can never be printed again — did $5,000,000. The 30th Celebration RGB Mew trio — roughly 1 in 3,200 packs in one 6,500-pack community sample, but eminently reprintable — keeps sliding off its post-release highs: Red sold for $6,000–$7,000 and Green for ~$8,000 (ICv2), while Blue copies have since sold for $3,600–$5,000 on eBay (PriceCharting). One market prices permanence; the other prices hope. And hope gets reprinted.

The slab coda is the grading lesson of the week: the CGC 9 Illustrator did $2.8M; the PSA 9 did $5M — same card, one day apart, nearly double. SI called it the hobby's continued preference for PSA; ICv2 has long noted PSA's auction premium. At the trophy tier, the plastic around the card is part of the price.

❝

The takeaway: Buy what's unprintable. Rent everything else.

Tomorrow: the final countdown to Friday's double-header — what Radiance's first main-season reveals would have to show to actually move the market.
